Albox has a new mayor – the third in just over a year – following frenzied horse-trading between the parties to elect a new council leader.
Francisco Torrecillas from the Cilus party became council leader on Wednesday evening (August 3) during a heated plenary meeting, despite the fact his party won only seven per cent of the vote in the local elections in May 2015.
Against all predictions, Sr Torrecillas emerged as the most likely candidate when the ruling Socialist PSOE party announced that it would be forming an alliance with Cilus at the beginning of the week.
The move came after mayor Sonia Cerdán was forced to step down two weeks ago.
