Bar owners are being advised to consult with their neighbours ahead of the summer months to find ways of keeping the noise down, before any complaints are made.
The advice comes from ASHAL, the Almería association of hostelries, which is launching an advisory campaign for members to help them negotiate with communities of owners when planning outside terraces.
Spain is the second noisiest country in the world after Japan, according to the World Health Organisation. ASHAL recognises this, but says that outside bars and terraces are part of the local culture and there is no reason they should annoy local residents.
