The Spanish Senate has been awarded a prize launched to commemorate its own ‘compensation first’ decision, in a move on the part of property rights associations that has disappointed and angered some members.
The new ‘Justice in Town Planning’ prize was promoted by the Auan this month to celebrate the change in planning law and approved by the Senate on March 11 two years ago to compensate the homeowner before carrying out the demolition of an illegal property which had been bought in good faith.
The naming of the Senate as the winner this week has been heavily criticised, however.
