One of Almería’s most notorious prisoners has died in jail of cancer, according to reports.
Pompeyo Miranda, 51, regarded by the authorities as one of the most dangerous criminals in Spain, was convicted of murdering his girlfriend and a drug lord in Bolivia in the early 1990s.
He was being held in custody in El Acebuche prison in connection with an armed robbery, but fell ill three months ago with lung cancer. He was recently admitted to Torrecárdenas hospital under armed guard where he died last Thursday morning (March 23).
