FOOD donations made in Málaga during last weekend’s collections in the province’s supermarkets totalled between 450,000 and 500,000 kilos of goods. The ‘Grand Collection’ (Gran Recogida) saw 5,200 volunteers in 340 outlets inviting shoppers to buy a few extra items for needy families as part of the fourth annual campaign by food bank Bancosol.

Across Spain, 22 million kilos of non-perishable goods were donated by shoppers during the Friday and Saturday food drive, according to the National Federation of Food Banks which represents 56 member groups.
