THREE people died on Saturday afternoon when their light aircraft came down in mountainous countryside near the foot of La Maroma in the Axarquía. They were all German and included the pilot and his wife, both in their 60s, and a 45-year old female passenger.

The flight had originated in the southern French town of Perpignan and had stopped off at Muchamiel in Alicante before taking off on the last leg of its flight to Granada. It was one of seven aircraft on an air rally which began in Germany and was planned to continue to Morocco on Sunday.
