AN EARTHQUAKE near Calpe, which struck in the early hours of Thursday morning, prompted calls to the emergency services from worried residents. The tremor, measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale had an epicentre 4.5 kilometres off the coast of Calpe. It occurred at 01.45 in the morning and was followed by two smaller ones at 03:05 and 03:25, measuring 2.0 and 2.2 respectively. The quake was felt in nearby towns such as Benissa, Moraira and Altea.
