NINE Marbella firefighters last week received Medalla de la Ciudad medals from the town hall in recognition of their humanitarian work in Lesbos, Greece, where they went to work as volunteers to help rescue arriving refugees from Syria and elsewhere.

The fire department was collectively awarded the medal in 2016 for the refugee mission carried out in February of that year, but mayor Ángeles Muñoz said it was important that the individual firefighters who participated each be granted their own medal, “so that you can keep it forever and display it with the same pride that this town feels for you”.
