Granada mother defies Italian custody order

A GRANADA woman and her two children went into hiding last week after ignoring an Italian court order for the children to be handed over to their father.

Juana Rivas fled from Italy where her lawyer Maria Castillo said she had been, “subjected to an unsustainable situation of physical and psychological abuse.”

Sra Castillo added that Juana’s children, now aged three and 11 years, “witnessed the entire ordeal.” However, the case has been complicated by a difference between Spanish and Italian legislation on domestic abuse.
