FIVE Mijas local policeman who were previously acquitted on charges of drug-trafficking have now been convicted at a retrial ordered by the Supreme Court after it annulled the original verdict by the Málaga provincial court.

In the new trial – the verdict of which can still be appealed – the provincial court convicted all five officers and sentenced one of them, considered the leader, to five years in prison, while the other four were sentenced to four and a half years each. All five officers are banned from working as police for 20 years.

A sixth man, a civilian whose home the officers stored the drugs in, was sentenced to four years in prison.
