A CYCLIST is in a coma and another is in hospital with head injuries after a multiple pile-up during a race in the Ayora-Cofrentes district (inland Valencia province).
Blai Morant, 46, from Beniarjó (La Safor) is said to be recovering gradually, whilst Ramón Belda Vila, 37, from Alzira (Ribera Alta) had to be placed in an induced coma after being operated on for severe head wounds.
Medics at Valencia General Hospital were hoping to gradually reduce the sedation this week, aiming to bring him round, but they will not know whether he is likely to recover until they know whether or not he is still in a coma after taking him off the medication.
For the moment, his condition is said to be critical.
