A HOLIDAY rental scam which conned visitors into paying for non-existent accommodations in Fuengirola has been busted by the National Police.

Ten suspected fraudsters have been arrested by officers following raids on three addresses in Madrid and Toledo. The crime ring is thought to have committed at least 180 acts of fraud over four years of operation.

Police officials say the scam operated by advertising properties for rent on websites, including listings pages, using photos that the criminals found on the internet.

The supposed rental properties were located in Fuengirola, as well as other popular holiday destinations including Benidorm and Gandía.
