Fourteen people have been arrested on suspicion of stealing avocados from plantations in Benamargosa, Rincón de la Victoria, Vélez-Málaga and Algarrobo. Over 2,000 kilos of the fruit was seized by Guardia Civil investigators. They said the gang was probably responsible for at least a dozen night-time robberies with force and the illegal sale of 21,000 kilos of the fruit to numerous individuals and businesses.
