This year’s Nerja Caves Festival will run over four weekends from June 24 to July 16, and once again, as well as the main events staged in the caverns, there will be a supporting bill of free entertainment in the town centre. The president of the foundation which manages the natural attraction in Maro said the recommendations of its scientific committee have led to the use of two venues during the annual festival.
Miguel Briones was talking at the formal launch of the programme last week, and added that, to protect the environment inside the caves complex, everything has to be monitored to ensure that visitors and performances do not adversely affect it. He said the budget had been “tilted” towards research, conservation and maintenance, but without neglecting tourism or culture through song and dance.
