Residents told to leave 24 homes in La Herradura due to safety concerns

THE occupants of 24 homes in the Cármenes del Mar urbanisation in La Herradura have been told to leave their homes because the buildings are in a ruinous condition. It is thought that 15 more of over 400 families living in the Cerro Gordo development may soon be ordered to quit after municipal technicians recently described their situation as “worsening”.

The problems are being caused by landslips on the hills upon which the properties were built and a “state of emergency” was declared by Almuñecar town hall at the end of last year. Some months before, a court ordered the company that built the homes to make safe the houses, roads, and services infrastructure. However, having since gone bankrupt, the company took no action.
