December 9.
Dear Editor,
In September this year, I booked a week’s holiday in March 2016, for 6 people, to Mallorca, flying out of Alicante-Elche Airport, with carrier Air Berlin. Flown the route before with this German airline, so not a problem, or so I thought. Wrong.
You can imagine my alarm, when I then read in the 20th November edition of the Costa Blanca News, your article telling me that Air Berlin are to stop flying to the island, at the end of January, 2016. Help!
Having not received any email or telephone call from the airline, it was in something of a panic that I telephoned the airline at their HQ in Berlin, asking what was going on, regarding the 6 flights booked for March. The duty customer service staff member told me that as far as he was concerned the flight was still scheduled, and confirmation would be emailed to me.
A duplicate invoice eventually arrived, but I still had a feeling that all was not right. At Alicante-Elche airport, Air Berlin handling agent Swiss Port had written a telephone number for Air Berlin clients to ring, should they wish to get in touch. I did, urgently!
Telephoning this number, I spoke to “Karen”, based I believe in their office in Mallorca. After explaining my concerns, I was advised that my booked flight would certainly not happen, and why the airline had not been in touch was most regrettable.
Very true.
Karen would contact Berlin, and make sure that certain payments made were returned to my account. Pleased to report this has happened, and we have booked with another carrier, but what a state of complete disorder at Air Berlin.
Robert W Barnes.
