Saving Europe’s largest newt

The release of 629 Spanish ribbed newts (Pleurodeles waltl) into protected areas in the Valencia region has been declared a success by the regional environment department.

A spokesman explained that they are ‘one of the most vulnerable amphibian species in the Valencia region’.
