UST over half of residents in Dénia who responded to a survey do not want the main Marqués de Campo street to be pedestrianised, according to figures shown in the new town layout plan.
Traders have long been concerned about the council’s determination to shut the boulevard to vehicles, saying they risk losing business if potential customers cannot park nearby or people with mobility problems are unable to get to their shops and restaurants easily.
Closing the street would wipe out 229 parking spaces for cars and 82 for motorbikes, and involve diverting traffic around the town centre – an area that already suffers from round-the-clock gridlock.
