The government is planning to extend the obligatory use of face masks beyond the end of the state of emergency on June 21, according to state broadcaster RTVE.
They have been handed a copy of the draft measures due to be approved in Cabinet on Tuesday, which are designed to manage the healthcare crisis when the state of emergency is over.
People would be obliged to wear a face mask in closed public areas when two-metre social distancing cannot be observed, according to the draft.
The draft text also establishes fines of up to €100 for failing to follow the rule.
