Torrevieja town hall has announced that it is opening its beaches from tomorrow (Wednesday) for people to walk and practise individual sports, including water sports.

They stated that it is ‘absolutely prohibited’ to bathe in the sea, sunbathe, lie on the sand or carry out any sort of group activity on the beaches.

The only people allowed to swim will be federated sportspeople and professional athletes and they should take their accreditation with them so it can be checked.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón noted that the beaches of Los Náufragos, El Cura, Los Locos, Cabo Cervera and La Mata will be open to the public to walk and take exercise according to the timetables set out by the government’s royal decree.

Sr Dolón reminded that people can only walk up to 1km from their homes and people cannot take motor vehicles to go to practise sport or take exercise.

He said that local police will be carrying out ‘exhaustive checks’ and anyone breaking the rules will be fined.

Costa Blanca News is compiling a full report on which town halls in Alicante province are allowing exercise on their beaches and any local rules which apply.

This will appear in Friday’s paper – available from supermarkets, tobacconists/newspaper shops and online at www.costa-news.com
