Níjar council says the problem of wild camping across the Cabo de Gata nature park is “out of control” and has demanded the regional government start fining camper-vans parked overnight in local beauty spots.
Agents in charge of policing the park levied 96 fines on motor vehicles over Easter week of which 80 were for parking outside of authorised bays, five for blocking emergency exits and the rest for wild camping.
Five additional agents were hired over Easter to help control traffic on the congested park roads.
