Holiday rental businesses up in arms over ‘unacceptable’ air conditioning rules

A British expat has taken on the Junta de Andalucía in a bid to change the rules on holiday lets which oblige the owners of rented properties to install air conditioning units in every room.

Nina Bailey, who runs a property rental business in San José, has launched a petition to amend the Junta decree, which came into effect in May and is ostensibly aimed at cracking down on unlicensed holiday lets and regulating the sector.

  1. I read the regulations earlier today. Trying to meet the one about having fixed aircon in both bedrooms when there are no vents or local rules on compressors on the outside walls makes it impossible. Surely this is to drive business to mainstream hotels. Taxi campaigned get Uber banned, hotels try to get Airbnb banned, in Madrid they are out to get Car2go. Truth is this is linked to political lobbying and not allowing competition.
