About 100 people staged a demonstration outside Almería city’s Alcazaba fortress at the weekend to demand the full restoration of the decaying monument.
The 10th century fortress, arguably Almería’s most important cultural landmark, was damaged last month after 20 holes were drilled into a wall to erect a stage for a theatrical event. The incident caused widespread outrage and sparked calls for the resignation of the Alcazaba’s director and the provincial director of culture.
