The Guardia Civil fiscal crimes unit have swooped onto the offices of the state owned water management company Acuamed after a judge opened an investigation into corruption at the firm.

The anti-corruption prosecutor confirmed to Cadena Ser radio that the Cuevas desalination plant and the new pipelines that connect to the Carboneras desalination plant are “in the eye of the hurricane”, along with the plants in Torrevieja and Tarragona.

It is alleged that corruption in the awarding of these contracts inflated costs by as much as 10 per cent.
