Almería airport has reported soaring passenger numbers for the second month running, civil airports authority Aena has said.

A total of 48,325 passengers used the provincial airport in February – representing a 46.5 per cent rise compared to the same period in 2015, although most (39,446) flew on domestic flights.

The remainder flew from abroad, mostly from the UK and Belgium, and although the figure was more modest it represented a 55 per cent year on year increase.

Significantly, a total of 6,202 travellers flew to and from Gatwick and Manchester airports, representing a huge 87.6 per cent rise compared to February 2015.

The news comes after the best January figures since 2012, when Almería airport recorded the second biggest increase in passenger numbers in Spain.

  1. When it comes to regional Spanish airports Almeria is one of the best ….us brits love you so pls pls pls do the deals with the airlines and we’ll happily start flying direct from the UK rather than landing in Malaga or Murcia….

  2. Love flying in to Almeria airport but no longer able to fly from East Midlands Luton would also be a better option for us rather than having to fly from Gatwick or Stansted (seasonal)
