Police are on the hunt for poachers after the badly decomposed bodies of four wild boars were found caught in illegal traps in Turre.

Agents from the Junta de Andalucía’s environment protection unit were alerted last Thursday (January 18) by members of the public who discovered the dead animals  next to a path by an abandoned farm.

The agents, who needed to use metal cutters to free the bodies, mapped the spot where the animals were found before combing the area in search of other steel cable traps, although they have yet to identify the culprit or culprits, the Junta revealed.

In a statement the regional government said the animals would have suffered “a slow and painful death”.
