By Richard Torné

Casting for the Penny Dreadful TV series is taking place in Almería city this week.

The horror-fantasy series, starring Golden Globe nominee Eva Green and former Bond star Timothy Dalton, is set in Victorian times. Although previously shot exclusively in Ireland and London the makers have decided to include settings in Almería for the upcoming third season.

The casting for 500 extras is taking place at the Hotel Tryp in the provincial capital over a two-day period – Tuesday and Wednesday (December 29-30). Shooting will begin on January 12 and end on February 15.

The producer, Nostromo Pictures, is looking for men and women aged between 16 and 75 “with a classic look”, ideally with long hair and, in the case of men, bearded. Anyone with visible tattoos or modern haircuts or dyes will be excluded from the process.

According to press reports this week, up to 2,200 hopefuls had already signed up to the casting.
