This month marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana, and Channel Four has chosen to mark the occasion with a disrespectful delve into her private life. This Sunday it will air the controversial Diana: In Her Own Words, broadcasting tape recordings she made with her voice coach. Why didn’t she just sit there saying, “how now brown cow” instead of revealing her most intimate thoughts? Maybe she actually wanted them to be heard. We may never know.
In any case, the conversations don’t really tell us anything new. Diana was desperately lonely at times, her marriage was even colder than the Royal Family and that awful couple Charles and Camilla were shagging like rabbits, and hardly quiet about it. They’ve since gone on to hoodwink a nation. I wonder if Charles is loyal to this wife or if he is still a cheating good for nothing.
Channel Four’s claim that the tapes are “an important historical document” is just overblown drivel. Sunday’s programme is nothing more than a salacious peek behind the curtains to grab some ratings.
