The Refugio del Burrito donkey sanctuary based in Fuente de Piedra is stretched nearly to capacity after handling a record number of cases during the first six months of this year. In February the association, a subsidiary of the UK charity The Donkey Sanctuary, rescued nearly 100 donkeys in Cáceres, in the Extremadura region, that had been left abandoned following the death of their owner, a spokesperson told CDSN.

The charity is seeking additional funds through donations, as well as foster homes to help reduce the number animals in its direct care. More information about the Refugio del Burrito – including how to make donations or join its ‘adopt a donkey’ sponsorship programme – is available online at www.elrefugiodelburrito.com.
