THE public prosecutor has called for a 20-year prison term for a man accused of murdering a three-year-old boy from Rincón de Victoria in February last year. The body of the victim, named Alejandro, was eventually found at a remote spot in the Montes de Málaga where had had drowned.

The child was last seen when he was collected from his nursery school in Rincón by Antonio Fernández Augusto, his mother’s partner of around a year. When Alejandro was reported later missing, Fernández gave police three different accounts of what had happened, before confessing and taking them to find the body. He has been held in isolation for his own safety ever since, pending trial.
