Council investigates breaks in contractual agreement

BENIDORM council and in particular mobility councillor José Bañuls, are studying plans to rescind the contract it has with Park Control 2000 SL because of a number serious mistakes the company has made since 2008.

Park Control 2000 SL controls all parking within the town's blue zone and, claim the council, since 2008 has not been fulfilling the conditions of its contract.

A council source said the company had made mistakes that could result in fines of up to 6,000 euros for each error.

He added that the mistakes ranged from not having sufficient tow trucks available to excessive delays in providing an adequate service.

He also said the equipment used by the company is in a bad state and that on occasions tow trucks were not available for more than 12 hours and the service provided was ineffective and irregular.

Sr Bañuls said under the agreement with the company it was supposed to improve the tow truck service as well as improve the parking signag, but neither of these have been forthcoming. He also said there was a complete lack of transparency and the company had not provided documents to the council as required under the terms and conditions of the contract.
