Residents fight rubbish planJijona says no to extra waste from Castellón and Valencia
By Tom Cain The group says that when the dump was first opened it was meant to take 120,000 tonnes of waste per year, but the delay in opening the Les Canyades dump in Campello meant it had to deal with three times that amount. A spokesman for the group said the continual bad smells coming from the tip could have a negative effect on people's health and that more money should be invested in the site to bring it up to standard. The problem will the smell is also being experienced by residents in Campello who live close to the Les Canyades site. They have complained about the smells from the tip for a long time and despite council promises to investigate the matter nothing appears to have been done. Residents from Campello, Jijona and Villena will hold a demonstration in Campello on February 20 to demand improvements to the three waste sites. Read more in this weeks Costa Blanca News edition
