A MEETING was held in Benissa this week for the various resident associations fighting against building corruption and other issues to join forces and help each other.

Held at the Sede Universitaria the 11 separate groups totalling 21 representatives in attendance, included associations from Lliber, Benissa, Catral, Orihuela Costa and Jávea amongst others.

Each group representative explained their personal problems and battles they are having which include problems with the padrón and voting, courts, environmental issues especially due to building on rustic land and along the coastal line as well as legalisation of illegal homes in areas such as Llíber and Catral.

Adrian Hobbs, president of AULN from Llíber explained the case of the 300 plus illegal homes which has seen over 15 arrests in the past month. Another representative from Jávea explained that to have a voice and make your concerns heard, you need to be involved in local politics as well as form or join an association.

Other representatives stressed that integration is a key factor to gain the confidence of Spanish residents as well as dedication, effort, learning the Spanish language and also to be able to share information between associations.
