By James Parkes Nine people of Albanian-Kosovan origin were arrested in Oliva and Gandia, from where gang members travelled to the Marina Alta to break into villas regardless of whether residents were inside or not. Guardia Civil reports released on Wednesday by government sub-delegate in Alicante Encarna Llinares say the gang started to strike before summer this year. They used axes and mallets to enter villas and then threaten and, in some occasions, hit residents. Guardia Civil chief for Alicante, Colonel Antonio Bernabé Castro said further arrests are not discounted. He added that stolen items that have been recovered where on display at Calpe Guardia Civil station. Guardia Civil carried out three arrest in Gandia, where 20 officers literally took over a street causing a huge commotion say eye-witnesses. Judicial police officers in plain clothes had passed as students from a nearby secondary school showing photographs of the suspects, who were located in two flats in a building on Calle Primera Pedra. Witnesses describe the police action as 'film-style' with heavily-armed officers taking over the building and underground car park. Guardia Civil found a small arsenal which the gang used to carry out the break-ins. Read more in this weeks Costa Blanca News edition {moscomment} |
