State-of-the-art security cameras to watch over Torrevieja
Local police HQ where camera control centre will be based
By Alex Watkins The town hall has approved a scheme which will be carried out with over 1.6 million euros of the central government's new Plan E funds for municipalities. 'Proyecto Viriato' (assertive, intelligent video and radar Torrevieja) is a telecommunications network that will 'considerably improve traffic control and discipline, and the security of the public and municipal heritage', according to a council press release. Mayor Pedro Hernández Mateo indicated video cameras will be installed to monitor traffic, and public buildings and spaces. Images will be received by a control centre located in the local police headquarters. The network will connect cameras, radars and vehicle detection systems, storing information about their position and speed. These will give indications of possible traffic offences and 'behaviour that has previously been defined as of potential interest'. This includes taking 'certain routes at particular times' and 'possible association with recent criminal activities'. Suspicious activity around public buildings and installations would generate an automatic alarm to prevent possible vandalism. Read more in this weeks Costa Blanca News edition {moscomment} |
