Call for autumn lifeguard service

Cover needed for holidaymakers and expats

RESIDENTS from the Asociación de Vecinos Orihuela Costa and opposition parties have met with councillor for the coast, José Antonio Aniorte, to ask him to extend the beach lifeguard service.

The service is only available for three months during the summer but many expats and holidaymakers also go swimming in the autumn at Orihuela Costa beaches.

"The service residents were asking for was far too expensive," José Antonio Aniorte told CBNews.

"It would cost 483,000 euros and the town hall cannot afford it due to the general credit crunch.
