Calpe coastline headache solved

Mayor reaches agreement with ministry over controversial land-sea borders

HUNDREDS of property owners along Calpe coastline sighed in relief this week when Mayor Ximo Tur returned from a meeting with environment ministry officials in which they announced amendments to the imposing of a 100-metre no building zone.

Ministry spokeswoman Alicia Paz Antolín said the zone had been decreased to 20 metres in the areas of Partidas Bassetes, Calalga, Maryvilla and Canuta because they are classified as urban zones.

The news brought relief to many people living in the affected zones who were under the threat of losing their homes if the original 100-metre limit had been imposed.

The rethink means a new plan will have to be drawn up and presented for public viewing before any new boundaries can be set.
