Local shopkeeper and nightclub manager detained in hunt for killers

GUARDIA CIVIL officers have arrested the owner of a shoe shop in Polop de la Marina and the manager of a nightclub in La Cala Benidormin connection with the October 2007 murder of mayor Alejandro Ponsoda.

The arrests come just days after another suspect was arrested in Albatera.

The second man to be arrested in the case is well known in the town where he has run a shoe shop for many years.

He was picked up just hours before he was due to fly to China on business.

Investigators say that once they knew he was planning to go to China they had to move quickly to prevent him from leaving the country.

Once the man had been detained he was taken to his home where police carried out a search and removed two boxes of documents.
