Trolleys full of helpShoppers help replenish Alicante food bank stocks
By Nikki Luxford The food bank in Alicante, which started 25 years ago, has, due to the economic crisis, become empty, so a campaign was organised in collaboration with the two Carrefour stores in San Juan and Benidorm. The 'Kilo' campaign began to replenish stocks at the food bank, stocks which are later distributed among hundreds of disadvantaged families. The campaign asked shoppers at the two Carrefour stores to purchase an extra item or two and deposit them in trolleys alongside the check-out. At the end of the two days, Carrefour agreed it would double the amount for every kilo collected. More than 40 overloaded shopping trolleys were filled with goods.
