British consul Janine Lamont attended the Remembrance Sunday events organised by local ex-servicemen and women in Orihuela Costa. Consul Lamont was joined by local mayoress Mónica Llorente and her coast councillor José Antonio Aniorte.

In Castalla, members of the Royal British Legion, mayor José Luis Prats and Onil mayoress, Elisa Ribera, along with other town hall representatives and members of the Spanish armed forces and local police, took part in a remembrance day service in the town's Plaza Mayor on Sunday.

This was the first time such an event has been held in Castalla and around 200 expats turned out, many of them wearing their medals.

During the service a piper and five members of the brass section of the Sanat Cecilia town band played, and a solo trumpeter signalled the two-minute silence.
