ROAD WORKS

Algeciras is to demolish a large house that has been constructed on 465 square metres in Avenida Diputación in Rinconcillo. The two-storey property has been constructed on land that is zoned for a road. The town hall took the matter to court where a judge ruled in their favour ordering the building to come down.

GOOD VIEW

La Línea's historic Torre Vigía is to be restored by the coastal authority, with platforms inside and out so that members of the public are able to see the fine coastal views. The defence tower, one of the town's most famous images, will have 238,000 euros spent on refurbishmen. Tthe council says it will carry out complimentary works alongside for visitors.

DISASTER AREA

San Roque council designated the area as a "catastrophic zone" after the recent heavy rains. As a result 50,000 euros is to be given in aid to the families in Estacion San Roque whose homes were damaged by the floods. The town hall is also to approach the provincial, regional and national governments for flood disaster aid.

MUNICIPAL WIND

Tarifa is famous for its wind parks that use the strong winds off the Atlantic to generate electricity. Now mayor Miguel Manella says it will create its own wind park and study centre. Tarifa pioneered the use of green energy so its study centre will become a reference point and in addition the town hall's coffers should benefit from the sale of electricity.
