La Ruta del Vino Somontano is part of one of the most forward thinking Denominaciones de Origen (DOs) in Spain. Recently, through the good offices of Kathy Abell, whose brief is Liaison and Communication for La Ruta, I received a case of wines, deemed to be representative of the area. Observant Costa News readers will have noticed, over recent months, an attractive banner advert appearing on the front page tempting readers to visit the beautiful winemaking area of DO Somontano. Those of you in many different parts of the world who read the papers over the internet (www.costa-news.com click Cork Talk) can see that the banner is still there. Frankly, this open-door policy is amazing and such a refreshing change from those dinosaur DOs whose inertia is quite baffling.
