IT’S onto the GR-11 trans-Pyrenean footpath for our autumn walk. This stage, from Baños de Panticosa to Sallent de Gallego, is one of the ‘star’ sections, following a mountain stream/river with intermittent waterfalls up to a series of glacial lakes.
As the walker returns on the same path, the route is suitable for mountain walkers of all abilities. It is down to the individual to decide when it is time to turn back. Snow and fatigue will prevent many from reaching the Cuello del Infierno at 2,721 metres – but you don’t have to go that far to see the wonderful views.
The path starts out from the mountain refuge at Baños de Panticosa, with Baños being an old spa complex where many go to ‘take the cure’.
