OLIVA-BORN javelin whizz Héctor Cabrera has qualified for this year’s Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Héctor (21) was on his last chance, as he had just six attempts to reach the minimum distance needed to get through to the Paralympics, due to take place between September 7 and 18.
But during the IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Grosseto, Italy, at the weekend, he finally managed to get his 800-gramme javelin to travel the 58.85 metres needed to go to Rio.
This distance also sets a new record in Spain, is Héctor’s best-ever result, and was just enough to get him through to the Spanish ‘Promesa’ (‘Promise’) Championships in Toledo at the end of June.
