Castellón housemaids fight for legal job regulation rights

HOUSEMAIDS are fighting to gain the same job rights as any other professional, as the amount of ‘underground economy’ workers continues to grow and reaches an estimated 1,000 in Castellón province.
Just 4,139 women are oficially registered as domestic employees, meaning the rest don’t have access to any benefits of being registered on the Social Security, such as a legal minimum wage, paid holidays, unemployment benefits…
The protests are being staged by several associations: the Platform for Right Equality of Castellón Domestic Employees, the Cruz Roja, Cáritas, the town hall of Benicarló, Onda’s Quisqueya association, Vila-real’s HOAC and CCOO and UGT unions.
