Critics allege favouritism by one of the judges in contest to select contestant

THE singer Manel Navarro has been selected to represent Spain in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. However, the choice is mired in controversy after it transpired that a judge who awarded him maximum points promised a month ago that he would help Navarro win.

The six finalists appeared in a live TV special on Saturday during which viewers were invited to vote for their favourite, which turned out to be another contestant, Mirela. However, once these votes were added to the jury’s votes, it became clear that the result was then tied between Navarro and Mirela.
