Firefighters hiked to the top of La Concha to install the bench last week

A GROUP of charity-minded firefighters from Marbella last week climbed to the top of the town’s famous La Concha mountain to install a bench aimed not at the beautiful view – but at raising public awareness about a rare disease.

The bench is dedicated to the Debra Butterfly Children charity, which works on behalf of people with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a condition that causes the skin and mucosal membranes such as inside the mouth to blister at the slightest knock or rub. It has been placed looking not out over the sea view but facing the opposite way, so people can take ‘selfies’ or photographs with the view as a backdrop, and share them on social networks, with the tags #bancosolidario and @pieldemariposa, which are linked to the project and to the Debra charity.
