Pension cash-grab

July 27, 2016

Hello, I have just read the article on page 16 of the July 21-27 edition.

I too am a victim of the Spanish Tax Office “money grab”. Having been registered with the same tax advisor for the past four years, this year I had to report details of my Royal Navy pension along with the other income received by myself and my wife for the tax year 2015.

I was shocked to find that my tax bill had increased to €1,700, having paid only around €240 for 2014! I was told that the tax office take my navy pension into account when assessing my total income.

Additionally, as my wife does not earn sufficient to pay any tax, the balance of her allowance was transferred to me in previous returns. This apparently has also been stopped.

As I cannot see in your newspaper where to send this to the “campaigner”, I would ask that you pass this on to him. It is extremely frustrating when one does not know how to challenge these rules forced upon us.
Thank you – and I always enjoy reading your paper.
