Turre council has been thrown into turmoil after mayor Martin Morales asked a ruling councillor to resign after voting against a crucial works project.

The move came after councillor Maria Luisa Cervantes, from the Somos Turre party, voted together with the Socialist PSOE party to oppose the project during a meeting of ruling councillors last Friday.

The mayor’s scaled-back project has proved unpopular with many within his council, with critics claiming it is a slapdash solution to a problem which has plagued Turre for years, much of it due to the inability of successive administrations to expropriate the necessary land to construct the pavement.
