A man who repeatedly ran over a moped rider before smashing into a rubbish lorry and seriously injuring a council worker during a high-speed rampage through an Almería city street is to go on trial next month charged with attempted homicide.

The incident happened in the evening of September 1, 2010 when the accused, identified only by his initials J.R.L., became embroiled in an argument with the rider of a moped in Almería city.

He chased the victim in his car at high speed along the Avenida Mare Nostrum before allegedly ramming into his moped and knocking him off.

According to the public prosecutor, the accused then “intentionally ran over him repeatedly with the intention of taking his life”.
